Setup guide

Get your family set up in minutes

A complete getting-started guide for every DayBlocks module. Start with the basics, then add blocks as your family needs them.

🚀 Getting started

DayBlocks is a browser-based app — no download required. Every module shares a single login so you only sign in once.

  1. Open the hub at DayBlocks and tap Open App →.
  2. Create a free account with your email or Google. Your data is encrypted and stored in the cloud.
  3. Set up your family group in FamilyBlocks — this unlocks all the shared modules.
  4. Install the app on your phone using the PWA install guide below for a native app feel.
  5. Pick your home page — from any module's sidebar tap Set as Home Page so the app opens straight to your most-used block.
Tip: Your login persists across all modules and devices. Sign in once and everything stays connected.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Setting up your family group

A family group connects household members across all shared modules — chores, pantry, budget, school mail, notes, and more. Personal data like tasks and health logs stays private to each person.

  1. Open FamilyBlocks and tap Create group.
  2. Give your group a name (e.g. "The Smiths").
  3. Tap Invite to copy your join code or share link.
  4. Each family member opens the link, creates their own account, and enters the code — they're in instantly.
Note: Every person needs their own account. Their personal task list, health data, and notifications remain private. Only shared modules are visible to the group.

👨‍👩‍👧 FamilyBlocks

Your family's central hub. Manage your household roster, post to a shared bulletin board, and keep everyone in sync with upcoming events — all in one place.

Quick start

  1. Open FamilyBlocks and tap Create group if you haven't already.
  2. Add a profile for each family member — name, display color, and role (parent, kid, etc.).
  3. Tap the Board tab to post a message visible to everyone in the group instantly.
  4. Tap the Events tab and add upcoming dates — school plays, appointments, trips.
  5. Share your invite code with anyone else who should join the household.

Key features

  • Member roster — see who's in your group, manage roles, and remove members if needed.
  • Bulletin board — post short updates visible to everyone in real time. Great for quick reminders.
  • Upcoming events — a shared family calendar strip. All modules reference these dates.
  • Invite management — regenerate your join code any time from the Settings tab.
  • Dashboard — a summary view linking to every other module for quick navigation.
Tip: FamilyBlocks is the foundation. Set it up before using ChoreBlocks, KitchenBlocks, BudgetBlocks, or MailBlocks — they all pull from your group roster.

  • Day navigation — use the arrows or swipe to plan tomorrow, review yesterday, or look ahead a week.
  • Recurring tasks — set daily, weekly, or custom repeat patterns and they reschedule themselves.
  • Points & streaks — earn points for completing tasks. Build streaks by finishing your day. Redeem points in the Rewards panel.
  • AI companion — a small character at the top reacts to your progress. Tap it to switch companions.
  • Notifications — set a morning briefing, due-today alerts, overdue reminders, and focus pings in the 🔔 Notifications drawer.
  • Analytics — weekly and monthly completion charts in the 📈 Analytics drawer.

  5. Within minutes, emails will appear in MailBlocks with the key info already extracted.

  2. Click any day and meal slot (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack) to plan what you're eating.
  3. Tap the All Items tab to add your pantry inventory. Set a quantity and low-stock threshold for each item.
  4. Tap ⚠️ Low Stock to see what's running out — add items to your grocery list from there.
  5. Head to 🛒 Grocery to see your running list. Check items off as you shop.

Key features

  • Meal planner — plan breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for a full week. Navigate forward and back by week.
  • Pantry inventory — track quantities, categories, expiry dates, and low-stock thresholds.

  • 📅 Expiring soon — a filtered view showing items expiring within 7 days.
  • Kroger cart sync — connect your Kroger account to send the grocery list straight to your Kroger cart.

Tips

  • Set low-stock thresholds when you add items — e.g. alert when milk hits 1 gallon. The Low Stock view then manages itself.
  • Build recipes in the 📖 Recipes tab, then drag them into the meal planner instead of typing each meal by hand.
  • On Sunday, plan the week's meals first, then check Low Stock to auto-build your grocery list.

  2. Open ChoreBlocks and tap + Add chore.
  3. Enter the chore name, assign it to a family member, set a frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, or one-time), and optionally set a point value.
  4. The chore appears on everyone's list. The assigned person taps it to mark it done.
  5. Tap Leaderboard to see who has the most points this week.

Key features

  • Assignment — assign to any family member or leave unassigned for anyone to claim.
  • Frequency — daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or one-time chores. Done chores reset automatically on schedule.
  • Points — each chore has a point value. Completing it earns points toward the household leaderboard.
  • All / Mine toggle — switch between seeing every household chore or only your own assignments.
  • Leaderboard — a running total of points per family member for the current period. Great motivation for kids.
  • Real-time sync — when one person marks a chore done, everyone else's view updates instantly.
Tip: Assign chores with different point values based on effort. Vacuuming the whole house is worth more than taking out the trash — kids will naturally gravitate toward high-value chores.

  • Member assignment — assign a note to a specific family member and filter the grid by person.

🏡 HomeBlocks

A maintenance log for everything you own. Track service history for your house, vehicles, and pets so you always know what's been done and what's coming due.

Quick start

Key features

  • Multiple asset types — track your home's systems (HVAC, roof, plumbing), vehicles (oil changes, tires, registration), and pets (vet visits, vaccines, grooming).
  • Service history — every log entry builds a timestamped history so you can show receipts, track warranty periods, or just remember when things were last done.
  • Next due dates — set when a task is due next. Items with upcoming due dates are highlighted so nothing slips.
  • Cost tracking — log what you spent on each task to understand your real maintenance costs over time.
  • Shared with family — all group members can view and add logs, so both partners stay informed.

What to track

  • House: HVAC filter changes, gutter cleaning, pest control, roof inspection, water heater flush, smoke detector batteries.
  • Vehicles: oil changes (with mileage), tire rotations, brake jobs, registration renewal, annual inspection.
  • Pets: vet visits, vaccinations, flea/tick treatments, grooming, dental cleanings.
Tip: Add your vehicles and set a "Next due" date for the next oil change right now — it takes two minutes and you'll thank yourself in 3,000 miles.
